National Park Service Awards County/VKP Grant to Develop Water Trails Management Program. The National Park Service has awarded Kitsap County a grant to develop a sustainable water trails management program for the 371 mile Kitsap Peninsula Water Trails. The grant will be used to develop policies, procedures and best practices across jurisdictions to maintain and grow the KP Water Trail system.
Sue Abbott of the National Park Service will work with members of the Kitsap Peninsula Water Trails Alliance that include representatives from the counties, cities, tribes, recreational groups, and businesses. The City of Gig Harbor and communities in Mason County are also interested in participating in expansion of the KP Water Trails Program which is expected to be designated part of the NPS Water Trails in early 2014.
